FORT KENT (AP) – More than 5,000 spectators are expected to be on hand in northern Maine as the Irving Woodlands Can-Am 250 sled dog race gets under way.

A total of 85 teams are expected to participate in three races this weekend, which all begin in Fort Kent.

The Willard Jalbert Jr. Can-Am 60 starts at 8 a.m. Saturday, and an hour later the Pepsi Bottling Co. Can-Am 30-mile race begins. The flagship event, the Irving Woodlands Can-Am 250, starts at 10 a.m.

The 30-mile race is expected to finish by early Saturday afternoon. The top finishers in the Can-Am 60 are expected to wind up their race Sunday. The winner of the Can-Am 250 isn’t expected in Fort Kent until sometime Monday morning, depending on trail conditions.
