JAY – Verso Paper will idle three of its four paper machines on a staggered basis at the Androscoggin Mill between March 6 and March 23 due to market conditions, company spokesman Bill Cohen said Friday.

The company is also idling all four of its machines for two weeks at the Bucksport Mill and a majority of employees will be temporarily laid off, he said. The machines will be idled from March 9 to March 23. Some workers will remain working to keep the plant operating.

At the Jay mill, a different machine will go down each week and employees will be temporarily laid off, he said.

If orders come in for paper products the machines they could come back online, he said.

“We’re only producing to orders,” he said. “We’re not making paper and storing it in warehouses.”
