PORTLAND (AP) – The Coast Guard says crews are searching for a missing kayaker along the Maine and New Hampshire coast.

Coast Guard officials say 59-year-old Hamilton Wood of Contoocook, N.H., was last heard from about 3 p.m. Friday. That’s when he called his wife and the Coast Guard station in Portsmouth, N.H., to say he was leaving the Isle of Shoals, which is about six miles offshore, and returning to the mainland.

Coast Guard crews found a kayak near Boon Island, Maine, around 7:30 a.m. Saturday. The kayak is believed to be the one used by Wood.

The Coast Guard was being assisted in the search by local and state agencies.
