HOPKINTON, N.H. (AP) – The wife of a Hopkinton, N.H., man who disappeared while kayaking off the coast of Maine and New Hampshire says he was a victim of bad luck, not recklessness.

Fifty-nine-year-old Hamilton Wood was last heard from Friday afternoon when he called his wife and the Coast Guard to say he was leaving the Isles of Shoals.

Wood worked as a social worker and as a counselor in the Kearsarge Regional School District. Family and friends describe him as a dedicated father, a gifted educator and an active outdoorsman.
