AUBURN – Water district officials will meet Thursday to discuss paying for some local drinking water work with federal stimulus money.
The district has submitted $8.87 million worth of projects to the state Drinking Water Program for funding under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
The state announced last week that it received $19.5 million for drinking water projects. That brings program funding to $38 million in the next fiscal year.
The Auburn and Lewiston water districts jointly submitted requests for $7.7 million to pay for construction of an ultraviolet water disinfecting facility. The Auburn district submitted another $1.13 million in requests to pay for the design of the facility and for general water main maintenance projects.
According to the state’s funding formula, the local districts could get 30 percent of the costs paid for with a grant and a forgivable loan to pay for the balance.
Auburn Water District trustees are scheduled to discuss and act on the applications at Thursday’s meeting at 4 p.m. in the district offices, 268 Court St.
