PORTLAND (AP) – Portland has a new police chief.
James Craig, a 28-year veteran of the Los Angeles Police Department, received Portland City Council’s unanimous vote Tuesday night to head the police department in Maine’s largest city.
Craig is the first black to hold the police chief’s post in Portland. He was expected to start work with the department Wednesday.
Craig replaces Tim Burton, who left in August to become police chief in Odessa, Texas.
Portland Council’s vote was originally scheduled for Monday, but it was pushed back a day because of the snowstorm.
