WATERVILLE (AP) – Police say a white powdery substance is being tested at a state health lab after two suspicious envelopes showed up in the mail at Waterville City Hall and another building.

Chief Joe Massey says an unmarked envelope with a suspicious substance in it showed up Friday morning at the Kennebec Valley Community Action Program. A short time later, another envelope with a white substance on it was reported to have been delivered to City Hall.

Police called a local Army National Guard unit and a fire department hazmat team to evacuate the buildings.

Massey said the letters have been sent to the state health lab for analysis. He said nobody was hurt and he’s confident nobody was in danger.
