WILTON – People are invited to share their thoughts about beautification work proposed for the foot of Wilson Lake at a meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, at the town office..
More than a dozen people met last month to discuss proposals for the retaining wall, parking area and Bass Park.
Scale drawings reflecting discussion of the Foot of the Lake Beautification Project will be reviewed this month, committee member Paul Gooch said. Project costs were discussed but the group agreed a plan was needed before costs could be estimated.
John Black from Rocky Hill Landscaping offered to draw plans for review at the March meeting.
The goal is to raise money by donations, grants and fundraising. Another is to bring people together as volunteers to help enhance the lake’s beauty, Betty Shibles said.
The group also agreed that the crumbling retaining wall is beyond their scope. Gooch, who chairs the Board of Selectmen, said it would have to address safety concerns.
Gooch’s hope was to “rid the area of gravel” left when part of the retaining wall project was completed. It has become unsightly and concerns were raised about it going into the lake along with other substances.
The group proposed reducing a 230-foot gravel strip by about one-third, which reduces the number of parking spaces at the foot of the lake to four handicap areas and six regular spaces.
Bass Park will get flowers planted there and along the lake.
