LEWISTON – George J. Dumas, 83, of Auburn died Sunday, March 8, at Central Maine Medical Center, after a sudden illness.

He was born in Haverhill, Mass., on June 6, 1925, the son of the late George F. and Gladys (Quinn) Dumas.

He was a graduate of Edward Little High School, Class of 1943. He then entered the U.S. Army during World War II serving with the Corps of Engineers.

On Oct. 19, 1947, he married the former Eleanor Johnson in Rangeley.

He worked for many years in the auto supply business at R.I. Mitchell, Steego and at United Auto Parts, where he was store manager in several stores prior to his retirement.

He enjoyed woodworking, which included the interior of their home, many woodcrafts and specialty doll houses.

He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Dumas of Auburn; one daughter, Sally Ann Moulton and her husband, Brian, of Greene; two brothers, Gilbert Dumas and his wife, Pauline, of Lewiston and Kenneth Dumas of Florida; two grandchildren, Tammy Charles and William Moulton; three great-grandchildren, Owen and Eli Charles and Abby Moulton; a sister-in-law, Clara Dumas of Auburn; several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, Robert Dumas.
