PORTLAND (AP) – The state Bureau of Insurance on Tuesday will hold the second of three public hearings on a request by Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield for rate adjustments that would result in an average premium increase of 18.1 percent.

The rate hikes would range from 9.5 percent for Anthem’s HealthChoice Standard and Basic to 37.8 percent for Lumenos Consumer Directed Health Plan.

Anthem has asked that the new rates take effect July 1. An estimated 12,049 policyholders would be affected.

Tuesday’s hearing will be at the University of Southern Maine. The first hearing was March 3 in Orono and the final session will be Thursday in Gardiner.
