One of the amazing events of the war in Iraq was when the oil fields in Iraq were set on fire during the early stages of the U.S. invasion. The fires caused tremendous heat and pollution, and many people had to flee the area in order to survive.

A small number of specialized firefighters from the U.S. faced those fires and extinguished them. It amazed the world. It was in the media. The people who fled were able to return home to resume their lives.

President Bush should have called those men before Congress to award them a Congressional Medal of Honor.

Now it is Iraq’s duty to pay back the debt to the U.S., perhaps in the form of surplus oil so people here can heat their homes and transport goods. It would also help increase people’s buying power and help bring back the nation’s economy, as it was in the past.
