AUBURN – Robert E. Helms, 75, of 43 Franklin St., Lewiston, died Friday, March 6, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin, after a long illness.

He was born in Lewiston, on March 2, 1934, the son of Raymond Sr. and Gracienne (Pare) Helms and had been a resident of this community all of his life.

He was educated in Lewiston parochial schools and attended St. Dominic Regional High School. He then joined the U.S. Marine Corps and had fought in the Korean Conflict for a total of eight years of service.

He was employed in the construction field for many years, prior to his illness. He was an avid outdoorsman, having enjoyed fishing and hunting. Most of all he loved spending time with his family.

He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was a parishioner of Holy Family Church.

He is survived by his wife, the former Nancy L. Grenier, whom he married on July 6, 1968 of Lewiston; one son, Keith Helms of Poland Spring; two daughters, Keri Lynne Myrick and her husband, Dennis, of Auburn and Maria Helms-Leslie and her husband, Stephen, of Fairbanks, Alaska; two sisters, June White of Gloucester, Mass., and Rejane Rodenbeck and her husband, Ralph, of Fort Wayne, Ind.; six grandchildren, Quinn and Molly Myrick, Emilia and Zarah Helms-Leslie and Aaron and Benjamin Leslie; several nieces and nephews; foster siblings, Fred Campbell and Judith Pendexter; and many life-long friends.

He was predeceased by a brother, Raymond Helms Jr.; and a sister, Joyce Spencer.

The family would like to thank Dr. Yacoub and also the staff at Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice for the wonderful care they have given to Robert.
