BANGOR – The Auburn Squirt House 2 Hockey team competed successfully in the Bangor Youth Hockey Friendship Tournament over the weekend, posting two wins and a tie.

Auburn downed Penobscot Valley Black Bears, 8-0, on the shoulders of an amazing eight different goal-scorers. Jacob Lawrence, Matt Verrill, Donovan Covert, Tyler Lacascio, Ally Mackenzie, Madison Simard, Chloe Morin and Thomas Bodge tallied for the Tigers. Covert, Lacascio and Mackenzie’s goals were short-handed.

Covert and Lacascio each logged two assists, with one each from Verrill, Lawrence and Connor Samson. Savannah Shaw made six saves.

Verrill score the lone goal off a feed from Lawrence in a 1-1 tie with Bangor Black. Sean Walsh matched Verrill’s goal in the second period to tie the game with help from Calvin Mercier. Shaw stopped 21 shots, while counterpart Cole Benner denied 20.

Auburn tripped up Bangor Red, 3-1, in its Sunday morning finale. Verrill, Lacascio and Samson each scored an unassisted goal. Shaw backed them up with 16 more saves. Jake Ressel turned away 22 shots for Bangor. Zach Boyd, Mat Futch and Dana Latlippe played smothering defense through the tournament.
