LEWISTON – Edgar Joseph Surette Sr., 94, formerly of Pinecrest Avenue, died on Saturday, March 7, at Central Maine Medical Center.

He was born in Rumford, on Sept. 27, 1914, a son of the late Charles and Alma Arsenault Surette. He was educated in local Rumford schools before moving to the Lewiston-Auburn area where he began working. He worked at various places but prior to retirement, he was a Maine certified electrician working for A.l. Doggett Inc. in Gray.

He was an avid outdoorsman, deer hunter and a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. He also enjoyed various crafts including string art. He was known in his neighborhood as the “Pinecrest Rooster” as he was always willing to help anyone with any task. He will be remembered for his kindness.

He is survived by his sons, Edgar Surette Jr. of Lewiston and Edward and Roberta Surette of Hampden, Conn.; grandchildren, Dan and Claire Surette of Sabattus, Ric and Ann Surette of Readfield, Mike and Kim Surette of Goodyear, Ariz., Scott and Shannon Surette of Sabattus, Nancy Surette of Lewiston, David Surette of Lewiston, Kristie and David Jalbert of Greene, Michelle and Dale White of Lewiston, Michael Linton of Florida, and Rayna Estes of Florida; seven great-granddaughters; eight great-grandsons; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife, Leopoldine Surette, on April 11, 1984.
