JAY – A Jay man remained at a Farmington jail Tuesday afternoon after he was charged Monday night in a domestic violence criminal threatening case involving a firearm, police said.

Thomas Dion, 40, is being held on $500 cash bail at the Franklin County Detention Center.

Jay police Cpl. Jeffrey Fournier responded to 272 Main St. after a neighbor reported Dion was throwing items including bottles at his significant other, police Chief Larry White Sr. said Tuesday.

While Fournier was in route to the residence another call came in reporting Dion was threatening the victim with a loaded shotgun, White said.

Fournier arrived but did not observe a weapon. After an interview he arrested Dion on a charge of criminal threatening, he said.

White and Livermore Falls police also responded to assist in the case.

Dion brought out a shotgun from a bedroom and placed it on the couch, White said, however, Dion said he did not threaten the family member with the gun and claims what he actually pointed at the victim was a broom.

The victim claimed to have vision problems and could not swear it was a firearm, White said.

The case regarding the firearm has been turned over to the Franklin County District Attorney’s Office for review, he said.

“Alcohol was a factor,” in the incident, White said.

Police secured the shotgun and two other firearms from the residence, White said.

“Mr. Dion was cooperative with us,” he said.
