WILTON – The cause of death of a young man found Saturday in Wilton is pending, but local police have released his identify.
Joshua Betts, 23, of Scarborough was found in the passenger seat of a car about 2:07 p.m. Saturday by a Weld Road resident, according to a news release from the Wilton Police Department that was issued on Tuesday.
A person at the state medical examiner’s office in Augusta said the body has been examined but no autopsy was performed. The ME is waiting on test results from the examination to determine cause of death.
The car Betts was in was positioned near several other unoccupied vehicles parked on Weld Road. No other people were found in the vehicle. An unidentified woman called police after discovering the car with an apparently deceased person sitting in the passenger seat.
Betts has no family or friends in the Wilton area, police said.
On Saturday, police said the death was not suspicious but withheld his name until the family could be contacted.
Investigation into the death continues, the release stated.
