Rumford town employees and officials watch Tim Ireland of Howard P. Fairfield of Skowhegan demonstrate a four-wheel drive 2009 Trackless sidewalk tractor on Tuesday while clearing a Penobscot Street sidewalk. Interim Town Manager Len Greaney said the tractor, which sells for more than $120,000, would resolve problems with heavy snow loads that can’t be cleared by Rumford’s lighter and weaker 1999 sidewalk plow. Greaney fielded several concerns this winter about the safety of children forced to walk on roads due to unplowed sidewalks.
