The illustrious Gov. John Baldacci is at it again. He seeks to borrow $306 million against the state’s already strained tax base for upcoming bond issues.

In total, the bonds would amount to payouts of more than $1 billion. Is that in the best interest of the people of the state of Maine?

I believe the amount of interest on previously voted bond issues is crippling the state’s economy, so why would Baldacci want the state to sink deeper in debt?

The federal government already passed a stimulus package with all its thousands of perks to do the very same things the bond money would do. That was the same package Sens. Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins crossed the aisle to pass.

There are many small businesses closing, with thousands of people out of work. I believe that is at least partly due to the overtaxing and overspending of the state government. At the current rate of state spending, the state will sink as surely as the Titanic did.

Voters need to take time to scrutinize and ask the right questions of the people they elect to office. If elected officials are expected to use common sense, people must vote for common-sense representatives.

I am totally disgusted with the current representatives in Augusta. They should pass laws that make sense and are fiscally responsible. And they should be held accountable for the outlandish decisions being made.
