Driver course

LEEDS – An AARP driver safety course for drivers age 50 and older will be presented from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 16, at Rural Community Action Ministry, 81 Church Hill Road.

The course will replace the original two-day, eight-hour presentation.

The registration fee is $14 a person and advance registration is required. To register, phone Tom Harvey, volunteer instructor, at 597-2331. Class size is limited to 15 participants and registrations will be accepted as long as space is available.

The AARP class helps drivers learn about defensive driving techniques, new traffic laws, rules of the road, and it helps older drivers learn how to adjust their driving to age-related changes in vision, hearing and reaction time. Insurance companies in Maine are now required to give discounts to drivers 55 and older who complete the course. More information may be found at www.home.earthlink.net/~drivesafe-me.
