AUBURN – Richard F. Mitchell Sr., 70, of Boothby Road, Livermore, passed away Thursday, March 12, at Androscoggin Hospice House, surrounded by his loving family after a long and courageous battle with lung cancer.

He was born in Livermore Falls, on May 6, 1938, the son of John and Eleanor (Burgess) Mitchell and attended Livermore Falls High School and also served in the U.S. Army. On May 30, 1959, he married Joanne True of Livermore. He worked as a warehouse manager at Livermore Shoe Co. in Livermore Falls, retiring in 1986, and also as a truck driver for Aulenback Trucking of Mexico.

He was a very devoted family man who always looked forward to spending time with his children, grandchildren and brothers and sisters. His family was everything to him. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and cooking.

He is survived by his loving wife, Joanne of Livermore; a daughter, Cathi Howell and her husband, Jef, of Livermore; three sons and their wives, Richard Jr. and Joan Mitchell of Leeds, David and Carrie Mitchell of Jay and Robert and Christina Mitchell of Greenwood, Ind.; 11 grandchildren, Richard Mitchell III, Dana Mitchell, Tiffany Mathon, Caryn Howell, Laura Howell, Cody Mitchell, Cameron Mitchell, Carter Mitchell, Elizabeth Mitchell, Kaitlyn Mitchell and Annika Mitchell; three great-grandchildren, Moesha Harrington, Gabriel Johnson Mitchell and Avery Richard Mitchell; brothers, Blaine Mitchell, Paul Mitchell Sr., and his wife, Gina, Duane Mitchell Sr. and his wife, Doreen, Brian Mitchell and his wife, Diane, and Kenneth Mitchell and his companion, Pat Nurse; sisters, Patricia Nichols and her husband, Lawrence, Betty Tyler, Susan Sylvester and her husband, Andrew, and Cindy Mitchell; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Lauriston Mitchell, Dennis Mitchell and Sheldon “Jim” Mitchell; and sisters, Paula Mitchell and Linda White.
