LEWISTON – Lewiston Jr. Maineiacs Squirt Travel B hockey team successfully defended its state championship with a 2-0 victory over Maine Coast of Rockport.
The Juniors twice avenged their only loss of the season to Maine Coast in the season opener, also posting a 3-0 victory late in the regular season.
In the final, the Jr. Maineiacs kept up the pressure from beginning to end, enjoying a 3-to-1 edge in shots on goal. Kyle Welsh registered his ninth shutout of the season to headline the Juniors’ defense.
Luc Dostie scored an unassisted goal late in the second period to put the champs on the board.
Kyle Morin connected for an insurance goal with five minutes remaining, also unassisted.
Lewiston will represent Maine in the regional tournament March 20-22 in Smithfield, R.I.
