PORTLAND (AP) – Officials who helped bring the Synchronized Skating Championships to the Cumberland County Civic Center early this month say the three-day event pumped an estimated $2 million into the Portland-area economy.

More than 13,000 people attended the competition, which generated spending for area hotels, restaurants, shops and bus companies.

The skating events, sanctioned by U.S. Figure Skating, provided an economic boost during a traditionally slow period for the hospitality industry.
