AUGUSTA – A Verso Paper Corp. official plans to present a copy of the report “Maine on paper: An industry we cannot afford to lose” to Gov. John Baldacci on Tuesday.

The report outlines steps Maine should take to ensure the long-term viability of Maine’s pulp and paper industry, company spokesman Bill Cohen said.

Verso President and Chief Executive Officer Mike Jackson will make the presentation at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday in the governor’s Cabinet Room, Cohen said.

Jackson will tell the governor that the future of Verso is tied directly to its success in Maine, and Maine’s economic future, especially that of rural Maine, is heavily dependent on a healthy pulp and paper industry, Cohen said.

Verso has mills in Jay and Bucksport.
