LISBON – A 33-year-old Lisbon woman who claimed to have been held hostage in her home in January, but was later arrested on charges of making a false report and unlawful possession of drugs, was found guilty in Lewiston District Court on Wednesday.

Renee Cartier, of 35 Town and Country Drive, pleaded no contest to making a false report.

She was placed on administrative release for one year and ordered to make restitution of $888.79 to the town of Lisbon for costs it incurred from the incident.

Conditions of release include submitting to random search and testing for alcohol and drugs, evaluation, counseling and treatment for substance abuse.

Cartier told police Jan. 14 that she had been held hostage at her home for 2½ days and forced to perform sex acts before escaping to a neighboring home to summon help.

She also said there was a group of people still in her home using drugs and a handgun in the house. The state police tactical team was called, and a number of officers and off-duty personnel were called in. One male was arrested without incident at that time.

Further investigation by Lisbon police uncovered physical evidence of the manufacture and use of crack cocaine in Cartier’s home. The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency was brought into the investigation.

Cartier was arrested by Lisbon police on Jan. 22 on charges of unlawful possession of scheduled drugs, creating a false alarm, and false swearing in connection with the allegations she made the day of the initial report that personal checks had been stolen from her home. Police later determined she had cashed the checks.
