FAIRFIELD – Evelyn Williams Ouellette, wife of Gerard N. Ouellette Sr., died peacefully at home on Wednesday, March 18, with her family by her side.

She was born July 9, 1928, in Farmington, the daughter of Dearborn and Gladys (Eaton) Williams and was one of 11 children. She graduated from Wilton Academy and worked many years for the U.S. Postal Service as a postmaster in Dryden, as she raised her four boys.

She retired from the Postal Service in 1988 as the postmaster of Winthrop. She always had a deep sense of patriotism evidenced by her longtime affiliation with Girls State, a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and State Democratic Party. She was also a longtime member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Gerard; her brother, Lawrence Williams; her four sons and their spouses, Owen and Brenda Stinson, Bruce and Kimberley Stinson, Laird and Sue Stinson and Arnold Stinson; also included in her family are Jan Stinson, Gerard Jr. and Monica Ouellette, Gary and Patti Ouellette, Debra and Scott Conant, David Ouellette and Tina Ouellette; 39 grandchildren and 11 spouses; and 29 great-grandchildren.
