At the Monmouth Middle School each Thursday afternoon, a parent by the name of Amy, volunteers to teach 57 fourth graders ages 9 thru 10, yoga lesions. The Monmouth Vestry has funded the buying of 20 yoga mats that the students share during the lesson. A few poses that are highly liked by the fourth grade classes are tree pose, child’s pose and half moon.
At the end of each session the students take part in a pose called the savasana. During the savasana you lie down on your back and focus on relaxing every part of your body. For other activities the fourth grade students walk a mile every Monday, Wednesday and Friday and have been doing so for the past three years.
The goal of this is to let the kids have some free time to release any excess energy they might have, so that it will be easier for them to pay attention in class.
