ANDOVER – A heavy voter turnout for Tuesday’s annual municipal election resulted in wins by all incumbents.
Selectman’s secretary Hope Peterson said Selectman Trudy Akers won re-election with a vote of 353. A 10-year veteran of the position, she was unopposed. Marshal Meisner easily won re-election to his fourth, three-year term as road commissioner despite a write-in challenge by Mark Farrington by a vote of 259-85.
For a three-year term as fire chief, Robert Dixon ran unopposed for the position held by his father, Ken, for more than 25 years. Kevin Scott launched a write-in challenge. Dixon received 269 votes to Scott’s 46.
A ceremony marking Ken Dixon’s retirement as fire chief, known as the changing of the badge, is set for 10 a.m., March 28, at the Andover Fire Station. The town’s new fire truck will also be dedicated, Peterson said.
Other election results include the re-election of town clerk and tax collector Elaine Morton to a fourth, three-year term. She defeated Lora Owings 239-130 for the tax collector position, and 231-130 for the town clerk seat.
Incumbent Sandra Conrad defeated Savannah Sessions, 245-126, for a three-year term as treasurer. This is the last time a treasurer will be chosen by election. Voters decided at last Saturday’s annual town meeting to change the position to appointed. Sidney Pew was unopposed for another three-year term on the SAD 44 board. Keith Smith ran unopposed for a one-year term on the school board.
Peterson said 372 people went to the polls.
