NEW YORK (AP) – Broadway no longer beckons for the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

A plan to banish cars from stretches of Broadway will have the effect of banishing floats and giant balloons, as well.

Officials hope closing the streets to traffic will help with congestion, pollution and safety.

But it also means that for the first time since 1927 the Macy’s parade can no longer finish its route on the Great White Way.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg said Monday that officials are studying other possible routes.
