I am writing to support Opportunity Maine’s legislative bill LD 1181, An Act to Create Jobs Through Investments in Green Energy, which will have a hearing in Augusta on April 1.

As a graduating senior from college about to enter the current unsteady job market, I would like to stay in Maine after I graduate. However, few opportunities in Maine support my specific skill set. The Green Jobs Green Savings bill will work to form community partnerships to retrain laid-off workers and provide training for un- and underemployed Mainers. That would provide myself and other students in my position with the proper training and job opportunities needed to stay and work in Maine after graduation.

I am grateful to Lewiston Rep. Mike Carey and Auburn Sen. Deb Simpson for showing their support for this bill. I hope others will join them and support new green jobs in Maine.
