DURHAM – There will be only one contest in the municipal election Friday, with three positions filled by write-in vote.

Road Commissioner Clifton Larrabee Sr. is being challenged by former Selectman Daryl Pratt.

Larrabee, 57, has held the position since 1989 when his father, Charles, retired after 25 years as road commissioner.

Married and the father of two grown children, he is president of Larrabee construction.

He said he tries to keep taxes down and roads safe, and if re-elected he will spend wisely and do work to keep roads safe.

Pratt, declined to be interviewed for this story.

Tax collector-treasurer Pauline Paradis is seeking her 23rd consecutive term unopposed.

Also unopposed for re-election are Selectman Daniel Hume and Budget Committee member Jane Rice.

To be filled by write-in vote will be two three-year terms on the Budget Committee and a school board seat that expires June 30.

Voters will assemble at the Elementary School gym at 7:50 a.m. Friday to open the town meeting-election and elect a moderator. The meeting will then adjourn to the polls from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. for voting by secret ballot. It will reconvene at 9 a.m. Saturday to act on a 50-article warrant.
