AUBURN – Deputy fire Chief Mike Minkowsky announces the addition of firefighter Josh Harris to the Auburn Fire Department roster.

Harris, 30, began his duties March 2. Originally from the Penobscot County town of Plymouth, he is a 1997 graduate of Nokomis Regional High School and a 2008 graduate of Southern Maine Community College, where he earned a degree in fire science. He is an emergency medical technician, certified firefighter I & II, haz-mat technician, fire service instructor I and a military firefighter for the Air National Guard.

“We are proud to have a recruit with the expansive training and experience that Firefighter Harris brings to our team,” Minkowsky said.

Newly hired firefighters must successfully complete a rigorous one-year probationary period that involves intensive firefighting skills training, supervised by Auburn fire captains who are certified instructors.

Harris is assigned to C Platoon under the supervision of Capt. Don Flanagan.
