LEWISTON – Lillian R. McManus of Lewiston passed away on Saturday, March 28, after a brief illness. She was a resident of Harpswell for most of her life and moved to Lewiston in recent years to be closer to family.

She was born in Harpswell, on May 30, 1920, to Grace and Ludger LeMay. She was educated in the Harpswell and Lewiston school systems. She married Daniel McManus, the love of her life, on Dec. 4, 1937. He passed away on Aug. 17, 1989.

They made their home, raised two daughters and enjoyed participating in community events in Harpswell.

She will be remembered for many things, among them being a devoted mother, loving grandmother and a proud great-grandmother. She enjoyed a good game of cribbage, walking in the woods, cooking, watching the birds and tending the flower and vegetable gardens. She was a strong-willed, caring and loving woman.

She was a member of the Elijah Kellogg Church, the Merriconeag Grange and the Harpswell Neck Fire Department Woman’s Auxiliary. She also volunteered for the American Cancer Society, the Scout Association bean hole suppers and at the Regional Memorial Hospital in Brunswick.

She is survived by her two daughters, Donna L. Burnell and her husband, Norman, of Lewiston and Judith McManus-Murray of Chevy Chase, Md.; her brother, Louis LeMay and his wife, Thalia, of Oakland; her brother-in-law, Harold McManus and his wife, May, of Topsham; two sisters-in-law, Priscilla Saindon of Brunswick and Dorothy LeMay of Harpswell; plus two granddaughters, Jennifer Labadie and her husband, Fabian, and Kimberly Foskett and her husband, Steve, all of Lewiston; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her sister, Dora Morrell; two brothers, Arnold and Edward LeMay; and a son, Daniel A. McManus Jr.

We want to express our heartfelt thanks to the physicians and staff at CMMC, the Hospice House of Auburn and St. Mary’s d’Youville Pavilion at St Mary’s Hospital. Their competent and compassionate care is greatly appreciated by the family.
