FARMINGTON – Alice L. Paul, 91, of Farmington, passed away Tuesday, April 7, surrounded by her family at the Pierce House.

She was born Sept. 21, 1917, in West Farmington, the daughter of Guy E. and Marion G. (Grant) Alexander Sr. She attended school in Portland, Durham and Farmington. She married George C. Paul in Wilton Sept. 16, 1936; he died in 1979.

She worked in the canning factories in Farmington before starting an apprenticeship under Frank and Ellen Howatt to be a beautician. She went on to purchase and run her own shop, Mayfair Beauty Shop, in Farmington for 35 years.

She was a member of the Business and Professional Club, the Emblem Club, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Waterville Hairdressers Association, and the Trinity United Methodist Church. She enjoyed all her dear friends and many activities at the Pierce House, where she has resided for the past 10 years. She also enjoyed making baby afghans for the hospital.

Survivors include four daughters, Beverly Coutre of Jay, Charlyne Silver of Hilton, N.Y., Linda Brownrigg of Windham and Georgia Karkos and her husband, Buzzy, of East Wilton; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; four sisters, Rose, Betty, Ernestine and Barbara; four brothers, Guy Jr., Robert, Keith and Donald; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her husband; brothers, Harold and Philip; sisters, Marvette and DeDe; and grandchildren, Kimberly, Patrick, and David.
