Dear Sun Spots: I was wondering if you or someone who reads Sun Spots would have an answer to my question. I would like to know what happened to the Food City sales flier that used to be in the Sun Journal every week? Thanks. – No Name, Strong.

Answer: According to Bruce Rioux, major accounts manager for the Sun Journal, your location is on the border of where the fliers are distributed in our paper. Recently, Food City has supplied the Sun Journal with additional copies of the flier, so hopefully that will cover your area.

Dear Sun Spots: I have a wooden carpet sweeper that has Bissell’s and Grand Rapids stamped on it, also stenciled flowers. It also has a brass plate that says “D. Allen Co., Lewiston, Me.” Does anyone know anything about this item, age and maybe its value? – No Name, No Town.

Answer: A search through the Sun Journal archives did not show a mention of a company by that name, and we’re hoping readers with information will contact the column. We found similar items for sale online, dated 1900 to 1939, ranging in price from $20 to $150.

Dear Sun Spots: Museum L-A is interested in hearing from local “Rosie the Riveters” from the World War II era who would be willing to loan tools, belts or uniforms to the museum. We’d like to include them in an upcoming special event. Please contact Susan Beane at Museum L-A at 207-333-3881. – Susan, Museum L-A.

Dear Sun Spots: I am wondering if there is anyone in the area who makes replacement cushions for patio furniture. I have a patio swing with a canopy and cushion which have completely rotted due to the sun. I need new ones, and can provide the old pieces for a pattern. Please call 743-2889. – Linda, South Paris.

Sun Spots was unable to locate someone in your area, and urges anyone who can help to contact you.
