RUMFORD – David J. Hannon, 67, of South Rumford Road in Rumford, died Monday, April 6, at Rumford Hospital with his wife Fran at his side.

He was born in Hull, Mass., Sept. 24, 1941, a son of Edward and Georgia Hannon.

He was educated in Hull, Mass., schools and was an all scholastic and all-American athlete. He served four years in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was employed in the elevator construction business. He was a member of International Union of Elevator Construction Local 4, the American Legion, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles.

He married Fran Carrier on Feb. 29, 2008, and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was an avid sportsman and he enjoyed fishing, hunting, hiking, sailing and snowshoeing.

Surviving are his wife, Frances “Fran” Hannon of Rumford; two sons, Sean Hannon and wife, Amy, of Chicago, Ill., and Shamus Hannon of Quincy, Mass.; a stepdaughter, Taylor Smith of Rumford; a brother, Paul Hannon of Old Orchard; a stepbrother, Edward Haskell of St. John, Caribbean; three grandchildren, Mary Carol Hannon, Sean William Hannon and Megan Patricia Hannon; and a nephew, Yale Hannon of California.

He was predeceased by his parents; and a brother, Robert Hannon.
