FARMINGTON – Cracks in the tennis court at Hippach Field were addressed Thursday by Farmington Recreation employees and volunteers.
High school tennis players are getting anxious to use the court but the cracks are deep enough to create a change in height from one side to the other, explained Steve Shible, director of Parks and Recreation. Someone could catch their foot, perhaps falling, he said.
After trying one repair process that didn’t work, the crew was using a machine from Bruce Manzir Paving of Anson that heats rubber to 350 degrees, creating a liquid consistency, he said. The crew swept and cleaned the cracks then went back and forth dropping the black substance into the cracks.
The court has gone 10 years beyond its expected life, Shible said. The department has been saving money to meet its 50 percent grant match, but even if the grant is approved this year, the court may not be rebuilt until next year, he added.
