Our forefathers designed a republic that would depend on the people to accept the responsibility of self-government. Each person would have to respect the rights of every other citizen. Each citizen would need to accept the responsibility to serve a role in that government.
Their faith in God (as evidenced in their documents) led them to base the rules on biblical principles. They knew that those were the most fair for most people.
In the Preamble to the Declaration of Independence, we read, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
In order to meet those responsibilities, each citizen would need to be willing to hold to the “self-evident” belief that the rights are given by the Creator, not by the state or a federal body. And they knew it was important that the state did not dictate which religion each person would follow.
Republics work only when the people work their fair share and government protects the nation. Since the rights are God-given, they can’t be taken away by career politicians, immoral people, amoral people, minorities (or majorities, for that matter).
Greed has infested America, taken over politics, and will destroy America. Our republic has lasted longer than most governments. Let us not lose it now.
