AUGUSTA (AP) – A Maine teen who spearheaded a program to bring lights and bleachers to his high school through the Make-A-Wish Foundation has died.
Sixteen-year-old Ricky Gibson of Wayne died Friday of an inoperable brain tumor.
Governor John Baldacci said it was difficult not to be inspired by the Maranacook High School sophomore’s drive, determination and love for life.
Gibson was diagnosed in September of 2008. After being approached by the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Maine, his wish was to give back to his community through lights and bleachers for his high school football field. The Make-A-Wish Foundation provided the initial donation, attracting additional donations from community members and other schools.
Gibson lit the lights during a special celebration last December.
