LIVERMORE – An 8- by 12-foot temporary office building was constructed and placed at the transfer station Thursday.

A fire April 3 destroyed a combined office and garage, and a storage building that housed wastes that contain mercury, such as fluorescent light bulbs.

Select board administrative assistant Kurt Schaub said town officials did comparison shopping for a prefabricated building, but such a structure would have needed modifications to fit state specifications to store hazardous wastes.

Transfer station workers will use the new building as temporary office quarters, and once a permanent building is constructed on the site, the smaller one will be used to store hazardous waste materials.

Local carpenter Mark Chretien built the office structure at a cost of $2,600, Schaub said. The insurance company agreed to cover that cost.
