CANTON – Robert H. Metcalf Sr., 72, of Jay died Sunday, April 12, at the Victorian Villa Rehabilitation & Living Center.

He was born Nov. 22, 1936, in Farmington, the son of William H. and Lyda (Dyar) Metcalf. He was educated in the schools of Farmington and married Muriel White on May 27, 1978.

He worked at Franklin Shoe, Vincent Fruits in Lewiston, as a long haul truck driver for Allied Van Lines and for North American Van Lines. He enjoyed golf, cribbage, fishing, and spending time at the lake with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Muriel; four sons, Robert Jr., Glenn Metcalf of Farmington, Gene Metcalf and his wife, Debbie, of Texas, and Ralph Metcalf and his wife, Sherri, of Jay; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two sisters, Ruth Phillips and her husband, John, of Florida, and Elizabeth Harris and her husband, Bob, of Mississippi; his brother, John Metcalf and his wife, Judy, of Wilton; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents; and his sister, Jean.
