AUGUSTA (AP) – A state senator from Aroostook County is miffed about a headline in an Augusta newspaper that refers to his proposed extension of Interstate 95 north from Houlton as “a road to nowhere.”

Democrat Troy Jackson of Allagash issued a statement asserting that it’s “pure ignorance” to say that the largest county east of the Mississippi, a land area equal in size to Connecticut and Rhode Island combined, is “nowhere.”

In its page-one story Wednesday, the Kennebec Journal quoted Jackson as saying there were a dozen or so plans for where the extension could go.

He said his top priority is that the highway be extended, and he’s less interested in which plan is the best.
