FARMINGTON – A class designed to teach basic road building and maintenance techniques along with training on a road tool called a Front Runner will be offered on April 22.
Registrations should be submitted by 1 p.m. Friday to ensure the class will be available said Rosetta Thompson of Franklin County Soil & Water Conservation Service, which is sponsoring the event.
The class begins at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday with a short classroom session and then is followed by a hands-on demonstration in the field. The class ends at 12:30 p.m.
There are eight Front Runners available for lease throughout the state conservation service districts but they cannot be leased until the operator has completed this training offered on Wednesday, Thompson said.
The Front Runner grader/rake is an attachment that fits onto the front of a ton pick-up truck with a snowplow mount.
It is used for road grading, maintenance, site cleanup, landscaping, finish grading, and snow removal on soft roads.
The cost of the class is $55. To register or for more information, call FCSWCD at 778-4279.
