AUGUSTA (AP) – Maine’s capital city is the first in the state to offer its residents discounts on drug purchases.
Augusta Mayor Roger Katz announced the program Thursday. Maine Public Radio says the program, offered in partnership with the National League of Cities, will help Augusta residents save money on prescriptions not covered by insurance.
Eligible residents will be issued cards entitling them to average savings of around 20 percent. Cards will also available to uninsured residents, who’ll be able to purchase prescribed drugs at a discount. Most pharmacies will accept the cards.
Katz says there are no age or income restrictions and no limits on how many times someone can use the card.
