BANGOR (AP) – A 32-year-old man accused of cutting a pregnant woman on the neck with a steak knife at a coffee shop in downtown Bangor has pleaded not guilty at his arraignment on charges of attempted murder and aggravated assault.

Jason Dean appeared Friday in Penobscot County Superior Court and was returned to the county jail in lieu of bail.

Police said Dean did not know the victim, who was working behind the counter at Java Joe’s Cafe on Central Street at the time of the attack.

The woman, who suffered a 2-inch cut, was treated at a local hospital.
