Third Sunday

PARIS – Trinity Lutheran Church, 34 Buckfield Road, Paris, will observe the third Sunday of Easter on Sunday, April 26. Sunday school and “Making the Old Story Our Story” will begin at 9 a.m. and the worship service at 10:15. All are welcome.

Cemetery meeting

WEST PARIS – The annual meeting of the Finnish Cemetery Association will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 28, at the Mission Congregational Church, Church Street. Reports will be given and election of officers will be held.

All persons having any connections with the cemetery are asked to attend.

Giving awards

BERLIN, N.H. – Coos County Family Health Services will present the 2009 Sylvia Evans Citizenship Award honoring Sandra Lemire and the Young Leadership Award honoring Katy Fuller at 7 p.m. Friday, May 1, at White Mountains Community College. RSVP by Friday, April 24, at 603-752-3669, ext. 4014.

Benefit dinner

NAPLES – A benefit dinner and silent auction will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, May 3, at Shakers Dance Club. Proceeds will assist Kim and Mike Laughlin. Tickets are $15; age 8 and under, free.

Kim (Burtsell) Laughlin of Naples suffered a major stroke on April 4. She has several blood clots in her brain and might undergo surgery. Kim has been the main source of income for their family as her husband, Mike, works part time. He has had four strokes and open heart surgery himself, as well as a bad back and no spleen to fight off infection.

They have no insurance and they will have many needs to get Kim back into the house. She will need full-time nursing, handicapped-accessible ramps and bathroom.

Sibling class

NORWAY – The Family Birthplace at Stephens Memorial Hospital will hold a sibling preparation class for big brothers and sisters-to-be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday, May 9, in the board room at the hospital.

Carol Welsh, RN, perinatal education coordinator for the Family Birthplace, will facilitate the class, which will focus on helping kids learn how to become a big brother or sister through role playing.

The kids will learn how to help parents with easy chores, and talk about feelings about the upcoming birth and making space.

For more information or to register a child, call the Family Birthplace at 743-1562, ext. 380. There is no charge for the class.

Ice-out winner

BRIDGTON – The Bridgton Community Center has announced that Marilyn Smith of Sweden is the 2009 Ice-Out winner. The cash prize is $610, an increase of $156.50 over last year.

The “Frosty Engineers” are working on a timing device that will make the guessing process more interesting and exact.

Rumors surrounding the Bridgton Community Center Fundraising Committee are that the 2010 contest will be more fun and more lucrative.

Bridge results

NORWAY – Oxford Hills Duplicate Bridge Club met April 17 in the Fare Share Building, Main Street, when a three-table Howell movement club championship was held.

Finishing first in Flight A were Richard Allen and Woody Mercier; second, Priscilla Rooth and Haziel Glazier, who also were first in Flight B. Finishing third in Flight A were Kathy and Pete Cummings and second in Flight B, Beverly Pelletier and Jim Dickens
