LEWISTON – A track fundamentals program is being offered by the Lewiston Recreation Department for youth in grades K-6.
The six-week program commences April 28.
Participants will be divided into permanent groups by age and will receive training and conditioning in track and field events. Instructors will teach technique and emphasize physical fitness. Events available are long jump, shot put, high jump, sprints, racewalk, hurdles, distance running and relays.
Each practice session will involve learning the different techniques and drills associated with the events and learning conditioning workouts that will enable cardiovascular training to be more enjoyable.
The six-week program, which wraps up June 4, will be held Mondays and Wednesdays at the Franklin Pasture track complex (next to Lewiston High School), starting at 6 p.m.
The cost is $35 for residents, and $50 for non-residents, and includes a track shirt. The program is limited to 60 participants.
Youth must be registered for the program prior to April 25, and registration is available at the Lewiston Recreation Department, 65 Central Avenue. For further information, residents may contact the Department at 513-3005.
