A beautiful day July 2 marked the Mahoosuc Arts Councilâ??s 22nd Annual Art Fair when 64 artists ranging from fine art painters to wood carvers, photographers and more gathered on the Bethel Common with great local eateries and live entertainment. Awards in best of show and honorable mention were determined by Judge Irina Kahn, professor of art and president of the Western Maine Art Group in Norway.
Best of Show Painting went to Irene Duplissis of Auburn for a watercolor of apples. Honorable mentions in painting were also awarded to Kelly Carmody of Melrose, Mass., for a portrait in oil and Jim Dover of Bridgton for a pen and ink landscape.
Best of Show Photography went to Rex Holsapple of Mount Vernon for a still life. Honorable mentions were also awarded to Ronald Simons of Readfield for a portrait and Doug Hitchcox of Hollis Center for a wildlife composition.
Best of Show Artisan went to Ken Jorgensen of Mexico for stained glass. Honorable mentions were also awarded to Heidi Wilde of Livermore Falls for a reverse painting of acrylic on glass of fish and Don Bolduc of North Conway, N.H., for a hand-carved and painted decoy.
A purchase award sponsored by The River View Resort was awarded to Ross Timberlake of S. Timberlake Company of Bethel.
