BRUNSWICK – Top female radio talk show host Dr. Laura Schlessinger invites moms and their families nationwide to celebrate Mother’s Day early, on Tuesday, May 5, when she will take a personal look at the joys and struggles of motherhood.
“Dr. Laura Live! In Praise of Mom,” a simulcast from the Irvine Barclay Theatre on the University of California, Irvine, campus, will be shown locally at 8 p.m. at Brunswick 10 at 19 Gurnet Road (tape delayed), followed by a taped encore at 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 6.
During the live stage show, Schlessinger will recount her life as a career woman turned stay-at-home mom, showing her journey from misconception to conception to birth to the joys and struggles of parenting.
The show will feature audio and video vignettes about moms from sons, daughters, grandchildren, grandparents, dads and moms. Schlessinger will answer questions from audience members live at the Irvine Barclay Theatre in what is expected to be an uplifting and funny event.
“Dr. Laura Live! In Praise of Mom” is adapted from Dr. Laura’s newest book, “In Praise of Stay-at-Home Moms,” published by HarperCollins.
“After my difficult delivery, ending up with an emergency C-section (and then there were all those teenage years!), I thought I’d never want to relive any of that,” said Schlessinger in a prepared release. “However, in retrospect, it was all part of the most wondrous experience of my life: being a mommy.”
With a broadcast career spanning more than 30 years, Schlessinger continues to dispense her no-nonsense advice to millions of listeners each week on more than 250 radio stations nationwide. She is the author of 10 New York Times best-selling books and four children’s books.
