Dear Sun Spots: I have been looking everywhere for men’s bow ties. Does anyone have some to sell or give away? Or where are they available? Call 783-7536. – G. Nadeau, Lewiston.

Answer: In addition to responses from readers, Sun Spots was able to find two businesses in Maine for you to contact.

Linda Robertson, the seamstress and owner of says they always welcome mail and phone orders. According to her Web site, you may even design your own bow tie with fabric you provide. Located in Boothbay, she has been crafting the bow ties since 1994. Contact her at 349 Pension Ridge Rd., Boothbay, ME 04537, or call 1-888-GR8-BOWS or visit

Also consider contacting Lisa Eaton at Heart&Sew, who has been making “distinctive ties, bow ties, braces (suspenders) and cummerbunds” since 1993. Sun Spots spoke with Eaton who said she’d be happy to send you some fabric samples to choose from for your bow tie. She’s a one-person business, so if you don’t reach her, leave a message on her answering machine. Write to Eaton at P.O. Box 421, Kennebunk, ME 04043 or call 985-6724. She may also be reached via e-mail at [email protected]

Eaton has been featured on the PBS series “Made In Maine” and you may also find her at some craft fairs throughout the state.

A third option is to contact the Bow Tie Club for a catalog of its products. Contact the customer service department 1-888-BOW-TIES or write to The Bow Tie Club, P.O. Box 120, Clarksburg, MD 20871-0120.
