DIXFIELD – Alyssa Charity ripped an RBI single in the seventh inning to lift Dirigo to a 6-5 victory over Livermore Falls in a MVC softball matchup Thursday.
Charity went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the Cougars (1-0) and had three RBIs. Trailing by two runs going into the seventh, Katrinia Pulk helped Dirigo tie the contest when she drove in Nikki Berry. Berry has plated Alyssa Wade to start off the rally. Kayla Chiasson went the distance for Dirigo, scattering seven hits in seven innings of work.
Leavitt 9, Lewiston 1
TURNER – Catcher Brittani Nelson pounded out two hits and drove in three runs to lead Leavitt to a 9-1 victory over Lewiston in KVAC softball action Thursday.
Kassara Varney led the Hornets (1-0) with three hits, while Megan Miller added two. Leavitt jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning and was never challenged. Adrai Newton struck out seven en route to posting the win.
Carly Denis led the Blue Devils (0-1) with two hits, highlighted by a double. Mariah Conway was tagged with the loss after working the first five innings for Lewiston.
Edward Little 4, Morse 2
BATH – Alyssa Levesque struck out eight batters as Edward Little hustled to a 4-2 victory over Morse in another vacation-week softball matchup Thursday. Miranda Martin and Jena Dubois led the Red Eddies (1-0) with two hits apiece. Kayla Cummings belted out a triple, while Emily Johnson smacked a double.
Meagan Hennessey fanned three on the hill for Morse (0-1) and was tagged with the loss.
Gray-New Gloucester 5, Lake Region 3
GRAY – Laura Getchell struck out 13 batters in seven innings of work and got adequate run support as Gray-New Gloucester snuck past Lake Region 5-3 in WMC softball action Thursday.
The Patriots (1-0) were led at the plate by Morgan Wilson, who smacked an RBI double in the third inning. Rachel Clement, Cassie Wilson and Brittany Adell also contributed with doubles. Gray-New Gloucester held a 3-0 advantage through through three innings before the Lakers (0-1) finally got one the scoreboard.
Allison Clark went the distance for Lake Region, allowing seven hits in the contest.
